Extensive blood work

The root of the annual medical check-up system is, and will be for the foreseeable future, blood work. If other lab tests are more invasive and aren’t recommended to be done every year, especially if there is no sign of illness, bloodwork can be done with minimum hassle and can prevent (or detect as soon as possible) a wide array of diseases – and doing blood tests is one of the best things you can do to prolong your life and avoid life-threatening conditions.

There are some catches, of course. More often than not, basic blood tests won’t do the trick, and you will need more complicated tests, like a Complete Blood Count, a Hemoglobin A1C test (great for diabetes) or a Fibrogen level test. There are lots of things in your blood that need to be at the correct level: white blood cells, red blood cells, plasma, potassium, glucose, protein, cholesterol, just to name a few.

This is the reason why extensive blood work should be done yearly. There are so many conditions which you can stop in their tracks just by detecting them on time, and there is no better way to do this other than looking into your blood.
